It has been a hot month so far! In the 5 Element theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer is ruled by the element fire.
With temperatures reaching mid 30s, the weather has had me looking for ways to stay cool – Chinese Medicine style.
Here are a few tips to help you keep balanced this summer:
– Cool down with food! Instead of choosing icy treats, go for naturally cooling foods, such as watermelon, cucumber, celery and mint.
– Stay hydrated and simplify up your diet! Summer is the season to eater smaller meals with fresh ingredients and drink plenty of water. Try to stay away from greasy, heavy foods.
– Use acupressure! Large Intestine 11

This point is at the end of your outer elbow crease as you flex your forearm. It is one of the strongest points in the body to clear and release heat. Next time you are feeling the heat, press this point with the pad of your thumb and rub in a circular motion 10 times.
