Summer is the season of growth when nature is at its peak and so is the heat. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer heat is brought on by the fire element bringing spiritual awareness between the heart and mind. It’s a joyous time when we can spend more time enjoying nature at its fullest.

The heat can bring issues within the body due to excess body heat. This can lead to sweating, heart palpitations, dehydration, sunburn, headaches and the feeling of exhaustion.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, both the fruit (Xi Gua) and seeds (Xi Gua Ren) of watermelon are used to clear heat from the body and increase your fluid intake. Watermelon is one of the best remedies for dehydration as well as cooling and cleansing your body. Cooling Watermelon Gazpacho:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of watermelon de-seeded and chopped
  • 1 cucumber chopped
  • 1 red onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cool for 1-2 hours before serving. Enjoy!
