According to Traditional Chinese Medicine there are five seasons. The unusual fifth season is the one we are currently in – late summer. Late summer is associated with the Earth element when nature does a downshift at this time from the upbeat energy of Fire and high summer to a more solid and nurturing energy. Perhaps you can feel the shift?
When you start to think of late summer as a separate season, it really has a feel of its own. The school holidays have come to an end, the days can still feel mild, but the mornings and evenings have become crisper. It is an interesting and transitional season as the light begins to draw in.
The Earth element represents being grounded and having solid roots. Emotionally this can be a time of reflection and planning. Some may find it bitter-sweet that the summer is over with the first reminder that winter is not far off, but we can all enjoy the gorgeous golden colours this “bonus” season offers. It is a great time to watch the sunrise or sunset and top your diet with pumpkins, squashes and sweetcorn.
Worry, over thinking and sympathy are the emotions of late summer. The next few weeks are an important time for self-nurturing by using the last of summer’s energy. If you are struggling with the change in season, an acupuncture treatment can help you get your body back in balance. Get in touch at 020 34883175.
