| April marks Acupuncture Awareness Campaign, a national campaign launched to raise the profile of acupuncture as a valid healthcare option. Acupuncture can sometimes be met with skepticism by the Western world. However, this ancient practice has been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture isn’t magic (although it often seems to be!), it is a simple yet profound system of medicine which aims to restore balance within our bodies, and promote healing. Acupuncture is based on the principle that our bodies have an innate intelligence, which regulates our bodily functions, known as Qi. Qi flows through our bodies in pathways known as meridians. When Qi is flowing smoothly, we experience optimal health, whereas when it is blocked or imbalanced, we experience illness or pain. Acupuncture aims to restore the flow of Qi, and promote healing. Research has shown that it works by stimulating the release of endorphins (natural painkillers), promoting circulation, and regulating the nervous system. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions, from pain and inflammation to digestive disorders, anxiety, depression, and infertility. In the spirit of Acupuncture Awareness, I hope that one day everyone, everywhere has access to this incredible and transformative system of medicine and that they benefit as much from it as I and my patients have. If you’re looking for a natural and holistic way to achieve better health, acupuncture may be just what you need. Nadine 020 34883175 https://purehealthacupuncture.co.uk |
