CUPPING THERAPY

Cupping Therapy Explained

Cupping is a soothing and relaxing treatment that can help relieve muscular pain and inflammation.

The air inside the glass cups is gently heated and the open end is placed on the skin. When the air inside the cups cool, it creates a vacuum which draws the skin and muscles into the cup. This negative pressure helps to loosen stiff muscles and encourages the muscles to relax and heal

Research has also shown that cupping can be beneficial in controlling asthma, reducing the intensity of coughs as well as alleviating the symptoms of the common cold

When we are very stressed, cupping can be the perfect treatment to soothe and ease away tension.

Cupping – How It Can Help With Chronic & Acute Pain

After qualifying, I completed extensive postgraduate training in pain management, which is now one of my specialist areas.

Cupping can be used as a form of natural relief for chronic and acute pain, which can be caused by conditions such as arthritis, sciatica and gout.

There has been some research which suggests that cupping is an effective form of pain relief. For example, a recent study concluded that cupping therapy can provide a significant reduction in pain. Similarly, another study concluded that cupping can significantly reduce neck pain.

Cupping may be helpful to relieve chronic and acute pain by:

  • Increasing the cleansing flow of lymphatic system
  • Removing congested blood from the muscles
  • Increasing blood flow to joints
  • Reducing inflammation
