MENOPAUSE
MENOPAUSE – HOW I CAN HELP
Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that a woman’s life unfolds in phases and each phase lasts for approximately 7 years. This is why a woman’s menstruation (heavenly dew) naturally comes to an end at around 49 years of age (7 times 7) and the life energy that is required to grow a baby moves from the womb (baby palace) upwards into the heart giving rise to a ‘second spring’.
This gentle imagery focuses on the fact that menopause is a natural and meaningful time for every woman. There is a subtle shift in energies which is beautiful and nourishing as a woman can now choose to use her energies on pursuits other than childbirth. Menopause is the body’s way of rechanneling energy into other ventures that a woman couldn’t focus on before.
Of course every change has its share of repercussions both positive and negative – menopause is no different. The cessation of the monthly cycle brings about a drop in oestrogen causing progesterone to take over. This shift in hormones can give rise to a range of symptoms which can feel quite uncomfortable.
- Night sweats
- Hot flushes
- Mood swings
- Anxiety
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
The discomfort can be alleviated with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) however, many women choose not to or are unable to receive HRT. But this doesn’t mean that you have to just bear these discomforts with no support.
Acupuncture can help ease the symptoms of menopause by targeting the root cause of the problem and working to rebalance the hormones the discomfort caused by these symptoms can be alleviated.
